In Mark 12:38-44 we are presented with a stunning contrast between the outwardly religion of the scribes as compared to the outwardly unimpressive and yet inwardly committed religion of a poor widow. In the midst of that contrast, we are reminded that true discipleship is not characterized primarily by outward religious activity but rather by a heart that is fully and totally devoted to God.
